The Kansas Literacy Festival is a three-day-long community event that uses art as a catalyst to inspire a lifelong love of reading. The festival provides literacy enrichment to Kansas Youth through targeted programs, events, and activities that encourage early learning, family engagement, and access to books.

More than 1 in 3 American children start kindergarten without the skills they need to learn to read.

Kansas Literacy Festival Mission
To ignite excitement in Kansas students to read and write, while mobilizing communities of teachers, artists, reading specialists, administrators, and families to fight for equity in children’s literacy.
In-Person Festival
The Kansas Literacy Festival is a community event where reading and writing are celebrated. Through a partnership with area schools, book stores, and state-wide organizations, the festival provides literacy enrichment to Kansas youth through programs, events, and activities that encourage early learning, family engagement, and access to books.

However, you don’t have to wait until September for the festival; the fun starts before then! Kansas Literacy Festival activities are happening from January to September of 2021, with the help of our Digital Partners all across Kansas. See what literacy events are happening in your neighborhood, and how you can get involved!
1.
Supply Kansas children with experiences and tools to inspire a lifelong love of reading.
2.
Provide accessible and engaging literacy programming to improve the low literacy rates of underserved Kansas youth.
3.
Offer teacher education that provides resources to use the arts to better teach literacy.
4.
Expose reading specialists, administrators, and families to diverse children's literature that will enhance learning experiences for children.
5.
Create a statewide community of authors, illustrators, educators, librarians, and literary and storytelling organizations that will partner to make an even greater impact with our Kansas youth.
