The Literacy Center
The center will combine historic architecture with a new
modern flare. The Holyoke Cottage will be nestled in the
pages of a giant book, resembling a pop-up book.

Restoring the Past

The Fairmount Cottage, built in 1888, is a beautiful American Queen Anne-style home once a crown jewel of the neighborhood. Storytime Village will restore the property
to its former glory and utilize it for a residency program to house artists, authors, and
researchers. It will be a bridge for the neighborhood, the university,
and the community.

Building the Future
Holyoke Cottage was built in 1888 for Reverend J.H. Parker, a Congregational Church minister who helped found Fairmount College (Wichita
State University). From 1897 to 1918 the house served as the women's dormitory for
Fairmount College. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. The restored building will serve as the welcome center for the
the Literacy Center project.

It will take a VILLAGE to build the Literacy Center.

Progress Series

We’re officially underway with construction of the Storytime Village Literacy Center—and we couldn’t be more excited to bring you along on the journey. This center is more than a building; it’s a promise to children and families that literacy, learning and opportunity matter.

One of the most meaningful parts of this vision is our partnership with HealthCore Clinic, which will provide pediatric and family-centered care right inside the Literacy Center—supporting the whole child and removing barriers for families.

We'll be sharing a monthly video highlighting construction progress, behind-the-scenes moments and the incredible partners helping us build this village together.

In this first video, you’ll hear directly from HealthCore Clinic’s leadership about why collaborative, community-centered care is so important—and how partnership makes progress possible.

Thank you for believing in this vision and walking alongside us. We can’t wait to share each milestone with you.
